The damaging lies that homeschooling moms believe are many! However, I want to touch upon just a few.
Needing to Know Everything
For Instance, the lie that you need to know everything about everything. This one will keep you feeling insecure in your homeschooling efforts for a long time, especially if you don’t see success quickly.
After graduating our first teen from high school and community college simultaneously, I became confident that we could facilitate our children’s education. First lie dispelled.

Must Have a College Degree
The second lie that homeschooling moms believe can be even more crippling. You must have a college degree to get your teens into college.
We have gotten 4 of our teens into top colleges, and we are currently working on our 5th high school graduate’s entrance into the college of her choice. Second lie dispelled.

Stamp Out Negative Talk
Hearing negative talk and opinions like the two above can cause many parents to worry unnecessarily. I have seen moms totally stop homeschooling because the pressure to conform to these lies was too great.
This doesn’t have to be you. You can learn to stamp out the negative talk with your own concrete results. Keep reading for some more empowering homeschool testimony.
Traditional Education is Best
I know, as a new homeschooling mom, you probably have heard this lie a few times. In my experience, I would hear people make little snide remarks every once in a while about how good their schools were.
When I was just starting, this lie scared me the most, because I didn’t have any close friends or relatives who had homeschooled period.
So We Built Community
I made it a point to seek out communities, groups, and organizations to build a homeschool support system for my family. My husband and I were able to do this before the internet was popular, and cell phones were odd things. I found my homeschooling tribe.
Today, Mom, you do not have to believe this lie about homeschooling. Simply because there are so many resources, groups, and communities at your fingertips that you can build your own private school.
You Will Need Lots of Money
Many homeschooling moms believe the lie that they need lots of money to homeschool. This lie will scare the new homeschooling mom back to work and cause her to worry. Let me assure you that homeschooling doesn’t have to cost a mom’s salary. I have gotten educational curriculum from various sources, and it has been just fine for my family. Did I ever tell you about the time I did dumpster diving to get science and history books? Well, I did.
Chin Up Mama
I have shared with you just a few of the lies that homeschooling moms believe. But keep your chin up, because as you begin to homeschool and raise your family, it will be challenging at times, and that’s ok. Think about it, when you are committed to your husband and your children, life is that much sweeter. You will survive the homeschooling lifestyle. Take it from me, it is a beautiful way of life!
